A Holiday Jubilee in Southern Oregon

Attractions, Family, Jacksonville, Shopping, Sweet Treats, Things to Do

When the holidays arrive in the Rogue Valley, the entire community is swept up in the sweet smell of gingerbread houses and feast their eyes on the glistening Christmas lights strung atop homes, businesses and trees.

During late fall and winter, Medford is brimming with the holiday spirit. Restaurants are filled with the aromas of turkey, ham, spices, cakes and pies. Apple, pumpkin, sweet potato and ginger — these are some of the favorite flavors of winter. If you are a fan of gingerbread and architectural prowess, the Gingerbread Jubilee combines both.

From November 18-20, visitors can attend the community tour and peruse the fantastic gingerbread creations. The tour is a festive way to kick off the holiday season. The kids will love looking at houses and other extraordinary structures made from gingerbread. Tasty and breathtaking, you will be amazed at what people can imagine and create. You may also be inspired to make your own gingerbread house.

The spirit of Christmases past are on display at the Jacksonville Victorian Christmas. The celebration starts with a tree lighting the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and continues for the first three weekends in December. The townspeople wear Victorian-era costumes, the town is adorned in natural greenery, white lights and red bows, and you can take your picture with Father Christmas. You can also enjoy the songs of strolling carolers as you sip hot cider. Shop, eat and enjoy special holiday fare at local restaurants, tasting rooms and stores. Holiday cheer abounds at the Jacksonville Victorian Christmas, where there is wholesome fun for the entire family.

Some of the Rogue Valley’s finest decorators will create winter magic at the Providence Festival of Trees during the first days of December. Local businesses, florists, designers and myriad other talented people create stunning Christmas trees and holiday displays. And no trip to the festival is complete without visiting the holiday store, which sells handcrafted items. These make perfect gifts for friends and family — or yourself. Adults and children will be awestruck by the towering trees, adorable mini-trees and other displays which are decorated with lights, candy, toys and anything else you can imagine.

Medford’s holiday activities radiate joy and spirit. The holidays are a time for family, togetherness and community. The wintertime in the Rogue Valley is a special time unlike any other season.
