The sentinel guarding Oregon’s border against invaders from the south has long been a landmark to pioneers. Hence it’s name. Visible for miles from the south and east, it is the first Oregon landmark people notice as they head up Interstate 5 from California (except for Mount McLoughlin). Route Details: Relatively easy until last 1/2 mike when it starts getting steep. To scramble to the top of the rock takes a bit of rock climbing and is not great for those who are scared of heights. Know your limits!
