COMPLETE GUIDE TO RAFTING THE ROGUE

The Rogue River offers world-class rafting, with thrilling rapids that accommodate every skill level. Whether you’re returning for another summer of riding the waves or it’s your first time on the Rogue, we’ve compiled a guide of everything you need to know before taking to the water.

Did you know Southern Oregon is your one-stop-shop for all things rafting? There are several local rafting companies which will start your adventure off right:

BEST FOR BEGINNERS

The Rogue River attracts many beginners because of its easier Class II-III rapids. Grave Creek Bridge is a recommended drop-in location, and if you float under the bridge, look for nests created by the swallows. Grave Creek is also the start of the Rogue River Trail.

Flora Dell is another calm stretch and the perfect place to stand-up paddle board, relax and hang out with friends. There are also two amazing waterfalls — Falls Creek on the river left, and Flora Dell Falls on the right.

The take-out at Foster Bar is another beautiful spot, although it can be crowded. But as you round the corner you can watch people fish, swim and enjoy the river.

KAYAKERS & RAFTERS

Mule Creek Canyon is loved by many. The fast-moving water can be a little hard to handle but lets you work on oar management. There aren't many places to eddy out once you enter the canyon, so extra space between boats is recommended. And then there’s the scenery! Look up and enjoy your beautiful surroundings as you float through the canyon.

With several places to rent a kayak in Southern Oregon, the Rogue River is well-used during the summer. Depending on where you want to launch into the river, you could have a more intense or calmer ride. Rainie Falls is a popular intermediate Class III run for kayakers.

EXPERT RAFTING

Blossom Bar is one of the longer rapids and tests your rowing skills. Before you head out, walk around to view the entire rapid and see if anyone or anything is stuck in "the move." While you’re on the water, stay alert and cautious. When the water dips below 3,000 cfs, boats can perch, wrap or even flip on the rocks. The Rogue River Trail is also nearby so you can walk around this rapid.

World Class River, Rafts & Oars
