Historic Talent Skate Park Celebrates Grand Re-Opening with Inaugural Talent Skate Classic Competition
First-of-its-kind Oregon skatepark launches annual celebration showcasing Pacific Northwest skateboard culture and community spirit
TALENT, OR – October 11, 2025 – The historic Oldtown Skate Park in Talent, Oregon, will celebrate its grand re-opening with the inaugural Talent Skate Classic, a groundbreaking community event that honors both the park's precedent-setting role and the vibrant skateboarding culture it helped establish across the Pacific Northwest.
From Outlawed Activity to Community Cornerstone
The story of Oldtown Skate Park begins in 1990 when skateboarding was not legal in downtown Talent. Dave Bobb, who had recently moved his family to the area, was approached by Cherl Voss of the Parks and Recreation commission after she learned of his Design Degree from Berkeley.

The full marathon begins at Emigrant Lake near Ashland and concludes in downtown Medford. The course is scenic, point-to-point, and predominantly downhill, following the Bear Creek Greenway. The elevation profile shows a net elevation loss of roughly 1,442 feet (439 meters), contributing to faster race times.
The event includes an $8,000 prize purse, custom shirts, high-quality finisher medals, and a family-friendly atmosphere at the finish line.
