The Southern Oregon Sports Commission (SOSC) is pleased to partner with KOBI-NBC Channel 5 to present a “Know Your Role Scholarship” this February at the Top 10 Sports Stories of 2019 Awards Banquet. The winner will be presented a certificate for the scholarship amount and a plaque commemorating their achievement.

The objective of the  KOBI-TV NBC5/ Southern Oregon Sports Commission Know Your Role Scholarship is to honor  a player who best exemplifies great sportsmanship as a whole. This award does not have to go to the best player on the field.  It could be a 4 year varsity starter, or it could be the player who worked their tail off to make varsity as a senior, yet only plays once in a while. The awards goal is to recognize the best sportsman or sportswoman in high school athletics.

Scholarship nominations are currently being made by school athletic directors, coaches, club staff, and board of directors. For more information, please contact Angela Wood at

Meet Our 2019 SOSC - KOBI Know Your Role Scholarship Recipient

For the past two years, NBC5 and the Know Your Role campaign have worked to improve sportsmanship and good behavior at youth sporting events locally.

Thursday night, we awarded scholarship money to one special high school athlete who’s exemplified everything Know Your Role is about.
